In 2023, the Mauritian artistic community lost one of its most prominent figures and a passionate ambassador of the island’s culture, the painter Vaco Baissac. Through his paintings, Baissac’s work captured the unique splendour of the island, most notably its sunkissed landscapes, which served as his main and inexhaustible source of inspiration. Vibrant and filled with colour, his creations offer a glimpse into island life. They are a celebration of the flora, fauna, and cultural richness of Mauritius.
